B&Q is hoping to draw in football fans over the next few weeks with a number of World Cup themed items which they are selling from their stores.
Novelty England merchandise is the order of the day for the store which is stocking football kit attired garden gnomes and St. George's cross wheel-barrows.
Ian Cheshire from the Kingfisher group commented that summer has taken its time to come this year which has impacted on the store's takings. He hopes that the effect of the World Cup will boost sales of items such as BBQ's and outdoor furniture – depending on how far England go in the tournament.
The Kingfisher group group have experienced flat sales during the first part of the year, but retail profit did increase by 12%. French sales proved to be the biggest boost to the company courtesy of Castorama, their French DIY chain. The company is hopeful that a roll out of their Tradepoint sections aimed at building professionals will help to boost profits further.
